Guadalupe River Flow - March 21, 2007
The graphics below emphasize the importance of Comal and San Marcos springflows to the entire Guadalupe River system.
While the current drought continues, GBRA will update this information every two weeks, using data obtained from USGS gaging stations at various locations on the Guadalupe, Comal and San Marcos Rivers.
Each graphic represents a particular location. Data will vary depending on the location of the gage. The Seguin gage only has a 5-year history, so a valid percent of norm cannot be calculated. And the primary contributing factor at San Marcos is the springflow.
The graphics for Gonzales, Cuero and Victoria all reflect the river flow in cubic feet per second (cfs), the percent of normal for the month, and the contributing factors. For example, at Gonzales, the gauged flow was 1840 cubic feet per second (cfs), which is 88% of the normal flow for the month. Of this 88%:
- Canyon Releases were 6%
- Comal and San Marcos springflows contributed 28%
- Runoff (rainfall and other sources) was 66%
Imagine the effect on our rivers without springflow! For more information, refer to The Importance of Spring Flow and the Edwards Aquifer and the Guadalupe River pages.
