SEGUIN - Beginning the evening of Sunday, March 16, 2008, Lake Placid (TP-4) will be lowered approximately 12 to 18 inches below normal as Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) hydroelectric crews begin modifications to the Lake Placid spill gates.

The potential for modifications have been studied by GBRA and consultants with the goal of improving the operation of the lake gates during high flow events. The result of the studies indicated that modifications to allow air-venting would improve the operations.

While the lower levels and scheduled work is estimated for completion in mid-July 2008, GBRA will provide updates as conditions and timing become known. Operations also may be adjusted or canceled in the event of adverse weather conditions.

GBRA advises anyone using Lake Placid (TP-4) for recreation purposes during this time to exercise caution. Boaters and recreationists using the area are advised to wear life jackets approved by the U.S. Coast Guard when tubing, rafting and boating. Lower lake levels may expose debris and other potential hazards that normally are underwater.

The GBRA was established by the Texas Legislature in 1933 as a water conservation and reclamation district. GBRA provides stewardship for the water resources in its 10-county statutory district, which begins near the headwaters of the Guadalupe and Blanco rivers, ends at San Antonio Bay, and includes Kendall, Comal, Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe, Gonzales, DeWitt, Victoria, Calhoun, and Refugio counties.
