2027 Scholarship Application Open

Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) accepts scholarship applications from September to the end of January, with award ceremonies at the end of the academic year. Graduating high school seniors in GBRA’s service area are encouraged to apply using our online link.

2027 Writing Prompt

As Central Texas communities and populations grow, the demand on the Guadalupe River’s water supply and water quality increases significantly. Use real-world data to explain how water pollution and prolonged drought impact the river’s overall ecosystem. In your essay, describe a specific water quality or conservation challenge facing the Guadalupe River Basin today and propose a solution to balance human water needs with the health of the river.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, January 31, 2027.

Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority Scholarship Program Information and Guidelines

INFORMATION

High school seniors residing or attending school in the following GBRA service area counties are eligible to apply: Caldwell, Calhoun, Comal, DeWitt, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall, Refugio, and Victoria. Scholarship winners can receive up to $2,000. All applications must use the Online Application form to be considered.

GBRA’s goal is to encourage and assist students to fulfill their educational endeavors. GBRA scholarships are awarded without regard to race, sex, gender, national origin, disability or religion.

Essay

The essay portion will be assessed according to content and form by a GBRA chosen Scholarship Committee. Applicants are encouraged to spend an adequate amount of time and effort researching and preparing their statement based on prompt provided.

The essay body should not exceed three pages. (Works Cited/Reference page does not count toward the three page limit.)
Essays are required to be in APA or MLA format with sources cited and referenced.
Essays are subject to AI and Plagiarism screening.

Cover Letter and Resume

Applicants are required to submit their cover letter and resume. This is an opportunity to highlight high school involvement, achievements, and/or occupations.

Resumes are limited to one page.
Use of images on resume and cover letter are prohibited.
Include your extracurricular activities, sports, clubs, outside of school organizations, volunteerism and/or part-time work.
Include certifications and skills. (Examples: Proficient in Google Suite Apps; CPR Certification – May 2024)

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

The following factors will be considered in the evaluation of each application.

<h4>Essay</h4>
The essay portion will be assessed according to content and form. The essay plays a critical role in helping the screening committee select finalists for the selection process. Applicants are encouraged to spend an adequate amount of time and effort preparing their statement.

<h4>Overall Scholastic Achievements, Integrity and School Engagement</h4>
Students will have a chance to highlight their entire high school academic career, participation, awards, and achievements.

<h4>Online Application Form</h4>
All applications for the GBRA Scholarship Program should be submitted through the GBRA Scholarship Google form.

<h4>Resume and Cover Letter</h4>
Students must upload a copy of their resume and cover letter through the application form to be considered.
